Hey there.
I’m Jorge Castro, 23, currently based in beautiful Tijuana, Mexico.
A few things about me:
I’m an IT professional with 3+ YoE in operational support, currently serving as the onsite support partner for a manufacturing facility within Schneider Electric. I enjoy my job and I’m constantly looking for opportunities to enhance my skillset. I like to dive headfirst into whatever challenge I may encounter and I’ve found that often enough they yield rather easily to savvy and perseverance.
I resumed my studies and continue to pursue my CS degree at San Diego Mesa College. I take classes as I can during my off time.
If you haven’t caught on yet, I consider myself a keen tech enthusiast in general. I like playing with *nix systems, building scripts and automations, toying with SBCs, self-hosting and homelabbing, among other things. My interests are wide and I’ve yet to explore them fully, but they mostly revolve around DevOps and SRE concepts and practices. I hope to get more hands-on experience with these going forward.
As far as other hobbies go, I’m an avid fan of water sports. I’ve been a swimmer my whole life and currently train every other day at my local aquatic complex. I want to take up open water swimming and scuba diving sometime in the near future. My other pursuits tend more toward the meditative. I spend an obscene amount of time listening to music, with Mark Lanegan being a current favorite. I recently began reading Bukowski’s work and I’m sorry to report I seem to have a soft spot for it. I like studying philosophical prose and I’m given to contemplation. I owe a great deal—perhaps too much—of my intellectual conscience and outlook to having read Nietzsche and McLuhan. Make of that what you will.
That’s all for now.
